Why You Need a Settlement Agreement
When a roommate moves out, there are always outstanding expenses to resolve: shared bills, deposits, purchases, and IOUs. Without a clear settlement agreement, these can drag on for months and damage relationships. This template makes it official.
Template Sections
Names of all parties, date of agreement, list of all outstanding shared expenses with amounts, who owes whom and the total, payment method and deadline, security deposit distribution plan, acknowledgment of final settlement, and signatures from all roommates.
How to Use It
Complete the template together at your final flat meeting. Review every line item and agree on amounts before signing. Both the departing and remaining roommates should keep copies. Set a payment deadline of no more than 30 days after move-out.
