Why Laundry Causes So Many Arguments
It seems trivial until someone leaves wet clothes in the machine for two days, shrinks your favourite jumper, or uses all the detergent. In a shared home with one washing machine and four people, laundry is a limited resource that needs management.
Establish a Laundry Schedule
Create a weekly laundry schedule with assigned days or time slots. Factor in how often each person typically washes — some need daily loads (gym clothes, work uniforms) while others do weekly batches. Rotate if needed. Post the schedule near the machine.
The Golden Rules
Never leave wet clothes in the machine for more than an hour. Don't overload the machine. Use the correct temperature settings. Don't mix colours with whites unless everyone agrees. Replace detergent and softener when you use the last of it. Clean the lint filter after every use. If something goes wrong (shrinkage, colour bleed), own up immediately.
