Roommate Conflict Resolution Checklist

Before You Confront

☐ Identify the specific issue (not 'they're annoying', but 'they leave dishes for 3 days')
☐ Check your emotions — wait until you're calm
☐ Consider their perspective — is there something going on in their life?
☐ Gather any evidence if relevant (photos, message logs)
☐ Choose the right time — not when they're rushing out the door

The Conversation

☐ Use 'I' statements ('I feel stressed when...' not 'You always...')
☐ Stick to the specific issue — don't drag up past grievances
☐ Listen to their side without interrupting
☐ Propose a specific solution, not just a complaint
☐ Agree on next steps and a timeframe
☐ Document what was agreed in HomeCo for reference

If It Escalates

☐ Suggest mediation with a neutral third party
☐ Review your flatmate agreement if you have one
☐ Contact your landlord if the situation affects the tenancy
☐ Know your legal rights regarding notice periods
